Chanting AUM in the Great Architect’s Presence
Please note that the following poem emerged from my own contemplative practice. To my knowledge, the chanting of AUM or any other words is not part of any lodge ritual in the mainstream fraternity.
Near the fallen body of our hallowed icon of Masonic perfection,
Tradition has left a key to the word of our ascension,
And with it we enter into the lodge of contemplation,
Chanting AUM in the Great Architect’s presence.
With the A, we sing of the breathing of our beginning with the Creator.
With the U, we sing of the pulsing of our becoming with the Sustainer.
With the M, we sing of the knowing of our ending with the Destroyer.
Thus we invoke the timeless transformative cycle of birth, death, and rebirth,
Of the eternal whirling courtship dance of Heaven and Earth,
And our building and rebuilding in this task of greatest worth,
Chanting AUM in the Great Architect’s presence.
With the A, we welcome our souls to be struck by the gauge of our intemperance.
With the U, we welcome our souls to be struck by the square of our arrogance.
With the M, we welcome our souls to be struck by the maul of our ignorance.
Then in stillness we know freedom from more of our rough and superfluous parts,
And in darkness we receive enlightenment within our hearts,
Silently lifted in service to Love’s sciences and arts,
Chanting AUM in the Great Architect’s presence.
With the A, we sing of the breathing of our beginning with the Creator.
With the U, we sing of the pulsing of our becoming with the Sustainer.
With the M, we sing of the knowing of our ending with the Destroyer.
Hail the Mysteries and Great Work of initiation, passing, and raising!
Hail the Mystic Tie that unites us in the Light so blazing!
Hail the Master Builder, the One most worthy of our praising!
Chanting AUM in the Great Architect’s presence.
